Shopping in swanky Paris (26 October 2024)

Shopping was on the agenda. I was thinking about what to cook that night and had found that the Marché d’Aligre was a good market to go to for fresh vegetables and is used by the chefs of Paris. If it was that good why not visit even if I did not buy anything. I love markets.

We took the metro to Aligre, well almost. There were a few metres to walk to the market which was huge. In the end I did not buy much because I could not think what to cook that I had already made.
We then had a coffee in a vegan restaurant before continuing on.
We took the metro to Opera. I showed Bev and Graham were Galleries Lafayette was situated and I went off to find a salad and coffee for lunch. After having something to eat, I also went to Galleries Lafayette and climbed to the rooftop for an interesting view of the city.

The next venue was the Gourmet section of Galleries Lafayette which was rather impressive and I would have felt hungry but having eaten earlier, I was happy just to let my eyes graze on the wonderful food that was available. I was conscious though of the many homeless and poor people who were very visible around the city streets.
An hour or so after entering Galleries Lafayette I got a call to say that Bev and Graham were having a late light lunch.
Having refuelled we wandered down the Avenue d’Opera towards Le Louvre. Just before entering the large precinct we passed the Café de Paris. It is one of the oldest cafés in Paris and was the haunt of many famous literary figures from the past.
Being the weekend the crowds were out. We wandered through the Jardin de Tuilleries and to the Place de la Concorde where we happened upon a guy playing music and dancing. He was good but most impressive was the dancing of some of the female bystanders who joined him. I did wonder if they were plants but I don’t think so because they had nothing to gain apart from showing off their skills.
We continued onto the Champs Elysee, past the Elysee Palace (residence and office of the President of France) until we realised daylight was running out and we were all very tired. We then caught a train back to the apartment.
